Star Trek: Kodiak - It Never Rains IV
Ensign Holden sat down in the communications booth attached to his bunk room. He rubbed his eyes, and connected to the Kodiak's computer. It was early morning, an hour or so before his shift was due to begin. Silently, he sent a hail to K7. He watched as the transmission reached the station, and connected to the medical wing. Diaz smiled at him over the viewscreen. “About damn time.” Holden's hands tightened into fists. “Yeah … Sorry I didn't call sooner.” “You called at a good time. I'll be going under the knife in about an hour.” Holden exhaled. “Right. Wow, okay. Didn't realise that was happening so soon.” “Yep.” Holden couldn't help but stare at the red skin around Diaz's eyes, at the way her discoloured pupils never focused on anything in particular. The more cowardly part of him wanted to get up and bolt from the room, make some excuse. “When are you arriving at K7?” Diaz asked. “Pretty soon, I think. We're in your
